Skills for Connection: The PAIRS Daily Temperature Reading

PAIRS Daily Temperature Reading Exercise

Daily Temperature Reading

Saturday Series | FatherhoodChannel.com

If your relationships feel tense, distant, or off-track, this simple five-step check-in can change everything.

The Daily Temperature Reading (DTR), a core PAIRS tool, helps couples, parents, and families strengthen emotional bonds by creating space for open, structured sharing.

Here’s how it works. Together, take turns sharing:

  1. Appreciations – What you value about the other person
  2. New Information – Updates, plans, changes they should know
  3. Puzzles – Things you’re wondering about (without blame)
  4. Concerns with Recommendations – Naming problems and offering solutions
  5. Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams – What you want for yourself and your relationship

It only takes 10–15 minutes, but the results can be profound.

“When couples and families start doing DTRs regularly, the atmosphere changes,” says Seth Eisenberg, President of PAIRS Foundation. “There’s more empathy, more clarity—and a lot fewer explosions.”

DTR helps people feel seen, heard, and understood. It’s a safe structure for connection—especially when stress, assumptions, or unspoken frustrations are in the way.

Try it today. One step at a time.
