“Before I Was a Dad…”
Before I was a dad, I thought love was something you gave when someone earned it.
Before I was a dad, I thought being strong meant staying silent — holding it together, no matter what.
Before I was a dad, I believed success was measured in titles, trophies, and how many people returned your calls.
Then he came into the world — tiny, wailing, wrapped in possibility — and everything I thought I knew got flipped inside out.
I learned that love doesn’t wait to be earned. It just pours out of you, whether you’re ready or not.
I learned that strength isn’t about silence — it’s about showing up when you’re exhausted, confused, and don’t have the answers.
I learned that success sounds like little feet running toward you, sticky hands grabbing your face, and the words:
“I missed you, Daddy.”
So today, I’m thankful.
Not for the version of me that had it all figured out — but for the one who didn’t.
The one who fumbled through diaper changes, reheated bottles, and late-night rocking chair breakdowns.
The one who grew up the moment he became someone’s father.
If you’re reading this, maybe you’ve got your own “Before I Was a Dad” story.
Take a minute today to remember him — and be thankful.
Not because he got everything right…
But because he said yes to the journey.
