When Army Veteran Marcus Johnson returned home from deployment, he expected challenges — but nothing prepared him for the emotional distance he felt from his wife, his kids, or even himself.
“I didn’t know how to talk about what I was feeling. And when I tried, it never came out right,” Marcus says. “I was losing connection with the people I love the most.”
That’s when a fellow Vet told him about Warrior to Soul Mate, a VA Chaplaincy program powered by the PAIRS Foundation that’s been transforming relationships and saving lives across the country.
A New Mission: Coming Home to Each Other
Warrior to Soul Mate (W2SM) is more than a workshop — it’s a life-changing experience designed to help Veterans and their loved ones rebuild emotional bridges. Through research-backed tools like the Daily Temperature Reading, Emptying the Emotional Jug, and Fair Fight for Change, participants learn to confide, connect, and resolve conflict in ways that bring them closer instead of pushing each other away.
Since launching in 2008, the program has reached thousands of Veterans and families across more than 50 VA medical centers. The impact is powerful: improved communication, deeper intimacy, reduced stress, fewer ER visits, and a significant drop in suicide risk.
One VA report even showed a 30%+ return on investment due to decreased medical and mental health services after participation.
But what may be most meaningful is what Veterans say after going through the program:
“I felt like I got my family back.”
“This helped me more than years of therapy.”
“It saved my marriage — and maybe my life.”
W2SM Goes Online — Join from Anywhere
PAIRS Foundation is offering a live, online version of Warrior to Soul Mate — making it easier than ever for Veterans, spouses, and caregivers to experience the healing power of this program from home.
The upcoming class will meet five consecutive Mondays, beginning March 31st, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern.
Participants will connect via Zoom for a small-group, interactive experience led by certified PAIRS facilitators. The course is open to Veterans, active duty, guard/reserve, and loved ones who want to build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.
Veterans are able to participate at no cost, and are encouraged to contact the Chaplaincy Department at their local VA Medical Center to learn more and get connected.
