At FatherhoodChannel.com, we’re dedicated to exploring the various facets of relationships and family life. Today, we’re excited to bring you an interview with a seasoned relationship coach, who has spent years helping couples navigate the complexities of their relationships. Our guest today is Laura Mitchell, a certified relationship coach with over a decade of experience. Laura shares her journey, the challenges she faces, and her advice for couples looking to strengthen their bond.

FatherhoodChannel.com: Laura, thank you for joining us today. Can you start by telling us a little about your background and how you became a relationship coach?

Laura Mitchell: Thank you for having me! My journey into relationship coaching started with my own experiences and challenges in relationships. I originally studied psychology and worked as a therapist. Over time, I found myself particularly drawn to the dynamics of romantic relationships and the impact they have on overall well-being. I pursued further certification in relationship coaching and have been focused on this field for the past 12 years.

FatherhoodChannel.com: What do you find most rewarding about your work as a relationship coach?

Laura Mitchell: The most rewarding part is seeing couples transform their relationships. When they come to me, they are often in a place of pain and frustration. Through our work together, they learn to communicate better, understand each other’s needs, and rebuild their connection. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness their progress and know that I’ve played a part in helping them find happiness and stability.

FatherhoodChannel.com: What are some common challenges couples face, and how do you help them address these issues?

Laura Mitchell: One common challenge is communication breakdown. Many couples struggle to express their feelings and needs effectively, which leads to misunderstandings and conflict. I use various techniques, including the PAIRS Talking Tips, to teach them how to communicate more openly and empathetically. Another challenge is balancing individual needs with the needs of the relationship. I help couples find that balance and create strategies to support each other while maintaining their own identities.

FatherhoodChannel.com: Can you give us an example of a successful intervention using the PAIRS Talking Tips?

Laura Mitchell: Absolutely. I worked with a couple, Sarah and Tom, who were constantly arguing about finances. They felt unheard and unappreciated, leading to frequent conflicts. Using the PAIRS Talking Tips, they learned to express their feelings without blaming each other. For instance, Sarah would say, “I notice we have been arguing a lot about money. I assume this means we both have different priorities and concerns.” Tom would respond with, “I think we need to find a common ground that addresses both our needs. I am hurt by the thought that you might see me as irresponsible.” Through this structured communication, they were able to understand each other’s perspectives and work towards a joint financial plan.

FatherhoodChannel.com: How does the PAIRS Yodi Relationship Coach app complement your work with clients?

Laura Mitchell: The PAIRS Yodi Relationship Coach app is a fantastic tool that provides daily guidance and exercises to strengthen relationships. It helps reinforce what we discuss in sessions by offering practical tips and reminders. The app encourages couples to check in with each other regularly and provides tools to manage conflicts constructively. It’s like having a coach in your pocket, which can be incredibly beneficial for maintaining progress between sessions.

FatherhoodChannel.com: What advice do you have for couples who are struggling but hesitant to seek professional help?

Laura Mitchell: My advice is to take the first step, even if it feels daunting. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Many couples wait until their problems feel insurmountable, but early intervention can prevent a lot of pain. Start with small steps, like using resources such as the PAIRS Yodi app or reading relationship books together. And remember, it’s okay to ask for help. A relationship coach can provide the tools and support needed to navigate challenges and build a stronger, healthier relationship.

FatherhoodChannel.com: Thank you so much, Laura, for sharing your insights and experiences with us. It’s been a pleasure talking to you.

Laura Mitchell: Thank you! It’s been wonderful sharing my journey and hopefully providing some valuable advice to your readers.
