Survey Reveals Some of the World’s Happiest Couples Live in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

A nonscientific survey of 1,241 people from 15 countries reveals some of the world’s happiest couples live in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, followed closely by Lebanon, and then the United States.

The survey invited people in 15 countries to rate their closest relationships in six key areas: Emotionality, Intellectuality, Sensuality, Sexuality, Shared Interests, and What’s Been Built Together.

In this survey, Zimbabwe and then South Africa, rounded out the top five countries overall. Couples in India, Ghana and Nigeria all tied for sixth place, followed by Canada, Jamaica, Benin, Venezuela, Bangladesh and Uganda. The unhappiest couples were in Ethiopia.

The survey was conducted between February 29 and March 31 based on random users of the Yodi Relationship Coach App who completed the research-validated Relationship Pleasure Scale survey developed by PAIRS Foundation.

PAIRS CEO Seth Eisenberg said while the survey only considered people from a small number of countries, the resilience of Jordanian and Lebanese couples stood out as being particularly strong.

“Jordanian and Lebanese couples have significant resources to build upon to make good relationships great,” Eisenberg said.

What’s Been Built Together – Jordan Number One

When considering just the question of “What’s Been Built Together,” the top three countries were Jordan, Lebanon, and Venezuela.

Emotional Connection – Jordan Number One

When considering just the question of “Emotional Connection,” the top three countries were Jordan, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Intellectual Connection – Jordan Number One

For “Intellectual Connection,” couples rated highest in Jordan, Lebanon and South Africa.

Shared Interests – Jordan Number One

The top three countries for couples with “Shared Interests” were Jordan, Lebanon and Zimbabwe.

Sensuality – South Africa Number One

South Africans, followed by Jordanians, Lebanese, and Americans were most likely to rate the quality of their “Sensual Connection” highest.

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife Auxillia

Sexuality – Zimbabwe Number One

When it came to “Sexuality,” couples from Zimbabwe, the United States and South Africa scored highest. In that area alone, Jordan dropped to sixth place.

Overall, Eisenberg said, couples in all 15 countries showed varying “degrees of challenge and opportunities to substantially improve the quality of their closest relationships.”

The men and women completing the survey shared common qualities of being proactive in pursuing relationship skills to strengthen intimacy and connection, Eisenberg stressed.
